Qld: Virgin Blue begins regular services to Rockhampton
BRISBANE, Dec 11 AAP - Virgin Blue began daily services between Rockhampton and Brisbanetoday, announcing a special $79 one-way fare over the Christmas holidays.
Virgin Blue spokesman David Huttner said the new route to the Queensland beef capitaldemonstrated the carrier's commitment to regional Australia.
"We are excited to be continuing our foray into more of our home state regions," he said.
"By offering low fares, Virgin Blue believes it can expand the market and allow peopleto fly who otherwise would have had to load their family into the car for a seven-hourtrek or simply stay at home.
"That's great for the people of Rocky and for the entire Capricorn Coast tourism industry."
Virgin Blue will operate its 737 aircraft on the Rockhampton-Brisbane route with onedaily flight scheduled initially.
The $79 one-way fare is on sale between December 9 and January 5 for travel from December26 to February 28.
