FED: Latham looking for reconciliation after leadership vote
MARK LATHAM says the federal opposition needs to heal after tomorrow's leadership vote
in order to defeat the government.
The opposition's treasury spokesman and former ALP leader KIM BEAZLEY are the only
contenders for Labor's top job after foreign affairs spokesman KEVIN RUDD yesterday declared
he wouldn't stand.
Mr LATHAM is known for his aggressive approach to politics but he says he's looking
forward to a united party -- regardless of whether he wins or loses.
He's told ABC television he hopes that no matter what the result tomorrow, the party
will have a reconciliation and get on with the real job of beating JOHN HOWARD.
After languishing in poor opinion polls, SIMON CREAN resigned as leader on Friday,
conceding he had lost majority support from his frontbench.
