FED: NCA call for greater informant protection

The National Crime Authority wants informants and whistleblowers to have the same legal
immunity as law enforcement officers in controlled operations.

The NCA's general manager operations, PETER LAMB, has told a federal parliamentary
committee hearing in Sydney that informants are the single biggest tool in elevating the NCA
to the major profit takers in organised crime.

NCA chairman JOHN BROOME has also told the committee that informants are the most
vulnerable in controlled operations, but they are denied protection under current legislation.

The committee is looking at the NCA's involvement in controlled operations, especially
where a law enforcement agency is involved in illegal activity.
