SCHWARZER BACKS WORLD CUP BOBBY.(Features)

Byline: MARTIN LIPTON

MARK SCHWARZER banged the drum for a potential World Cup rival last night by telling Fabio Capello he cannot keep on ignoring Bobby Zamora's England claims.

Zamora's instinctive 10th of the season was deserved reward for a performance in which he bullied the life out of Manchester United's makeshift back three.

Just a few weeks ago, Zamora (far right) become involved in a verbal battle with the Fulham fans who moaned about his lack of productivity, with websites berating the striker. But five goals in his last four games have seen him push his case for World Cup selection.

Fulham goalkeeper Schwarzer is heading for South Africa with Australia, and says Zamora should make Capello's England squad.

"Bobby's had a bit of stick from the fans but who hasn't had stick on the internet?" said Schwarzer.

"What matters is the work Bobby has done for us. That's been very under-rated and for the past three or four months he has been superb.

"He holds the ball up and throws himself about, but now he has added a few goals. That breeds more confidence, so he is really bounding around the place.

"He was exceptional against United and took real control of the game. If he keeps playing like this it will be difficult for England not to take a look at him."
