SA: Farmers could defy zero allocations: SA irrigation body

The South Australian irrigation body says irrigators may defy a complete cut in Murray
River water allocations to save their crops.

South Australian Murray Irrigators chairman IAN ZADOW says many farmers .. especially
citrus and avocado growers .. could defy the action and draw water from the river to finish
crops.

He says the season ended for perennial crops like fruits trees in July .. and he's
predicting irrigators will risk fines rather than watch produce die.

Irrigators who breach allocations can face fines or in extreme cases .. a water licence
can be revoked.
