NSW: M4 toll to be abolished in 2010, Iemma says
NSW Premier MORRIS IEMMA says the toll on the M4 motorway in Sydney's west will be
abolished in 2010.
The toll .. which was raised last week from two dollars 20 to two-75 for cars .. was
imposed in 1993 to fund construction of the missing link between two sections of the former
F4 freeway .. which was renamed M4.
The private company Statewide Roads maintains parts of the road and operates the toll
plaza .. under a contract with the state government which terminates in February 2010.
Mr IEMMA's told Fairfax Radio Network his government committed in 1995 to remove the
toll .. but the contract prevented them from doing that without massive payment from taxpayers.
