GSMA Taps Ruckus Wireless as Finalist in Global Mobile Awards for Best Mobile Broadband Technology
Type: News
Ruckus Wireless announced that its ZoneFlex Mobile Internet Smart Wi-Fi System was named a finalist in the GSMA Global Mobile Awards program in the category of Best Mobile Broadband Technology.
The winners of the Global Mobile Awards will be announced February 15, at the Mobile World Congress event, taking place in Barcelona, Spain.
One of 115 finalists across 10 categories, out of more than 470 entrants, the new ZoneFlex Mobile Internet Wi-Fi System was recognized for using patented Wi-Fi technology to address cellular network capacity and coverage concerns stemming from the growth of smart mobile devices and media-rich Mobile Internet applications.
According to a release, the Ruckus Mobile Internet Smart Wi-Fi System now lets operators add broadband bandwidth and wireless coverage in dense user environments where cellular network capacity isn't enough. Ruckus-patented Wi-Fi innovations now give mobile operators a complementary microcell strategy as they evolve their macro cellular networks to 4G/LTE.
"Our congratulations go to all the nominees in this year's Global Mobile Awards," said Rob Conway, CEO of the GSMA. "To get down to just 115 nominees from more than 470 high-caliber entries certainly presented our judges with a tough challenge this year. It is a great achievement to be shortlisted among such a high quality field of entrants. We eagerly anticipate the announcement of the winners at the Mobile World Congress and look forward to showcasing another great year of innovation for the mobile industry."
"As a Wi-Fi technology innovator, it's a distinct honor to be recognized by one of the foremost mobile communications organizations in the world, for our achievements in making Wi-Fi a more powerful and strategic asset to mobile operators around the globe," said Selina Lo, CEO of Ruckus Wireless. "Smartphone users everywhere are experiencing the pain of over-tapped networks. Until now, Wi-Fi has been used primarily as a technology of convenience and not a key part of the cellular infrastructure. We're changing all that with new Wi-Fi technology that gives mobile operators the carrier-class reliability that has long eluded them."
